1956 wolfsburg german bus
I never thought i'd be selling this . this is my baby. One of my favorite cars. I am trying to move out and have to much stuff. I have had this bus for four years. We had many great adventures together from weddings, to campouts, to vw shows, to vending at shows. It was fun. It had 97785 miles on it when i restored it. Now it has 104,000 miles on it and it is your chance to get this great bus and start your own adventures with it.
I first bought the bus in 2008 as a sandblasted, and epoxy primed shell. The Previous owner had installed the 15 window corner windows and side widows onto the 56 wolfsburg panel bus. It was originally a panel van kombi.
It was restored over 3 years in 2008,2009,2010.
As detailed below. It is a very solid bus.
At picking it up in 2008 I dropped it off durring the winter and had a local body shop repair several dents and rust spots with new metal which included, the small pitting the lower nose had along the seem, the passenger dogleg, & the battery tray. We brought it home in early 2009 and over a course of 2009 ,2010 painted the bus inside and out with 3 more coats of epoxy primer and 3 coats of sealing wax red and 2 coats of chestnut brown on top. Enough paint to keep it from rusting..It is on thick. (Good for camping anywhere..)Then i had the red painted over with a clear coat. The clear was finish sanded in the front and looks amazingly shiny. The back clear is not as clean although shiny I imagine if you spent a lot of time finish sanding the back it would really shine..
The bus did not have any doors or windows installed when purchased. It was just a shell. The correct 55,56 only doors were found and installed. It had all new window rubbers, new popout window frames and seals, new door rubbers, new engine rubbers, had replaced almost all rubber parts..
-It has the early style 55-59 15" wheels that are painted chestnut brown to match the body and have the chrome trim rings and good rubber.
-Had a new braking system installed (new lines, new master cylinder, new brake pads, new wheel cylinders, new springs, ect.. everything but the backing plates)It has 67 big drum brakes stops very well.
-The engine bay was cleaned and painted sealing wax red.
-Has a new gas tank with vdo guage, new battery tray, new battery, original 3rd brake light engine lid.
-The engine Is a 1300cc converted to 12v. It features the correct air cleaner, new carb, new 009, good 12v generator with regulator, new bosch 6v rebuilt starter, has new gas tank with correct gas cap, new battery and the whole engine bay was repainted to match the rest of the bus. It drives well as this is my daily driver durring the summer..update feb 17th2012 had the braes checked and the motor and everything seems to work well.
-The Transmission Is a 64-66 style with highway gearing It fits a 1500,1600 motor easily.. Shifts smoothly
-The Front beam is from a 64-66 bus also giving the bus bigger brakes easier stopping power. Has new tie rods, pinion gear, and great steering, steers on a dime
The rear interior
-The Very rare Canadiana camper kit interior is thought to be one of a handful of canadiana camper kits that still exist installed.(suposedy 1 of 2)
The original canadiana camper kit was pulled from a rotted 67 bus where it had been sitting rotting away. Me,My folks, some friends and my brother restored and refinished and reinstalled this interior into this 56 bus and we also put the rest of the bus together.
Much of the wood is original to the camper kit. The seats, head banger and cabinets are mostly original although refinished(worn out parts were copied in the original birch and replaced. The birch roof has its original roof arches and the birch is refinished from original. I sourced the exact same materials and wood to rebuild the damaged parts of the interior to refinish worn out parts. The canadiana camper kit was originally built locally in Niagra falls therefore the same local materials were used to rebuild it. It has the exact original curtain rods they used in the canadiana on it. New curtains were picked out and made to match the 15 windows. The cushions in the bus are made of new foam, and new material was used for the cushion cover's that is very strong and stain resistant.
-The bus has a linoleum floor that looks similar to original and is very easy to keep clean. With a bronze door trim..
-The door panels front and rear are a close match to the original canadiana kit..
-The interior has lots of storage for your show and camping equipement.
-The camping stuff can be removed if need be in about 4 hours although when you fold the bed out i find you can pretty much fit anything in it, It is surprising how much stuff actually fits in the bus. I even had a kayak in there a couple times..I do have the 15 window rear interior panels if wanted
-The interior includes the proper id tags for the Canadiana camper kit and brochure for it.
The front interior
-The 56 busses front seat was reupholstered to close to original colors and patterns. It has a new floor mat, original speedo, original shifter, solid rustfree floors , all pretty decent and orginAl. Original hellla headlights
Overall The bus is a really fun car to own and drive it gets so much attention its not funny. No matter where you go it puts a smile on folks faces and has a great vibe to it. It is a great bus to take to shows and to campouts. It is not a perfect show car but a fun camper. As a friend said "It is a nice bus to take to a vw show but its definitly some work away from being a pristine show car in comparison to other deluxe busses but if thats what you want this would be a start." Your questions are welcome i will answer them as fast as i can please be patient. Thank you for reading.
The bus is in Canada if you need more pics i have many just ask. Shipping is included in the total asking price upon a deposit can ship worldwide to your door.
