For Sale is my 1956 Type 1 Oval.
The vehicle is Right-Hand Drive, fitted with 6 Volt electrics and running with a Stock 1963 1200cc Engine and drive train. It has 3 previous owners excluding myself and has been restored to a very good condition.
The rear valance has been replaced with the correct year H-stamping panel from Autocraft along with a pair of new rear bumper mounting panels supplied by Hookys Panels. The W-Decklid is the original and is in very good rust free condition. Both doors are rust-free with-out any repairs, fitted with correct re-chromed door handles. Front wings are not original parts, one being replaced by myself from VW Heritage. Again both wings are rust free and I have installed correct metal wiring tubes. Windscreen, side windows and rear window channels are very clean and windows where removed for repaint. Wheels have been sand blasted and repainted in two tone cream and grey and are fitted with good condition tyres and new hubcaps. All hubcap clips where replaced where needed. The exterior bumpers have been replaced with new polished stainless steel items which are very good quality, strong and will hold their shine for many years.
The floor pan halves are original as far as I can see with the rubber floor mat mounts still present. The rear corners of the floor pan underside have been repaired at some point but these are solid and M.O.T passed. The front axle has been modified to use adjusters to allow height adjustment and the rear suspension has been lowered slightly. The front axle was removed, cleaned and repainted along with the trailing arms, and brake components during the restoration.
The electrical system on the car has been converted back to the original 6 Volt components. The starter motor and dynamo have both been fully reconditioned and tested by a local professional company (Broadway Electrical). The front section of the wiring has been renewed by myself using correct gauge and coloured wiring. A new 6 Volt horn was also fitted along with a pair of new 6 Volt semaphores which also function correctly. During the conversion back to 6 Volt I installed a new battery sourced by Karmann Konnection so coupled with the reconditioned starter motor and dynamo the car starts and charges perfectly. The rear light units have been rewire and fitted with new components which mean they work without earthing issues.
As mentioned I have installed a 1963 1200cc engine into the car and this has been installed with all the correct components for its year. All components were removed, cleaned, painted and renewed where needed. The engine runs very well and doesn't look as out of place as some of the later twin port engines do in this year of vehicle. The gearbox was sourced from the same vehicle as the engine and this also has been cleaned and repainted. All gears select as they should and the car drives very smoothly. Brakes where installed with new shoes and the reservoir replaced for the correct reproduction part.
At some point in the vehicles life it has been re-trimmed in cream leather-look vinyl with piping to match the exterior colour. There is currently a carpet in the vehicle but i am waiting for a new carpet to be made and fitted. The carpet that I have ordered is oatmeal in colour. The dash is standard, fitted with a new speaker grille, glove box insert and correct switches. Obviously the manual choke switch is present but non functional due to the later engine installed. The headlining has been renewed and is in good un torn condition. All in all the interior feels clean and is 100% functional.
I welcome anyone who wants to view the vehicle and take it for a drive. I have tried to cover all aspects of the car briefly and direct but if there is anything you would like to know, don't hesitate to ask. Please email me if there are any images you would specifically like to see.
The vehicle is priced at £8000 and I feel that its condition and driveability reflects this.
Thanks for looking
