i am trying to get a sense of the span of years that a particular three spoke steering wheel will fit 50's beetles. i have a hunch it it is early 50's beetle, but not limited. part number is 111415655A.

if anyone can verify the spans i'd be grateful. it will allow me to market this nos item correctly. thanks.

I have a feeling that part number 111415655A is later than split era. Certainly post 1955 if not post-1960 (as used on later model Standard Beetles, Fridolins etc). Split era 3-spoke wheels carry the part number 111415651A.

There's a fair few cars from the '40s – '60s that have a very similar steering wheel to the Standard model VW. The Reliant Regal 3 wheeler being one. A common manufacture must have supplied :?:

Not possible. The 3x3 part numbering system didn't exist prior to 54.
Must have had an L part number.

Good point Bruce! That part number is listed in 1954 so I guess it superceded the earlier part number for a 1949-55 wheel: L415 625A. The even earlier style is 415 625.
