Hi all,

I'm hoping someone here may be able to help.

Our 1959/60 bug is in need of a few interior parts including a new roof lining.

The car is Ceramic Green (if that makes any difference), and I was wondering what the correct roof lining material and colour should be?

Also, advice on where I should be able to buy it from would be greatly appreciated:d

p.s. the car also needs a new carpet set (it is RHD and has rubber mats at the moment)so advise on the correct colour for this would also be appreciated

Hi,

as far as I know there is only one colour for the headliner. White.
In Germany www.himmelservice.de is known for goof beetle headliners and carpets.
Your carpet shouls be anthracite. And rubber floormats are correct.
WolfsburgWest has colour charts, where you can find most of the colours for your car (link below)

Headliner should be Light Beige, not white on a '60.

I've just bought a Ceramic Green '60 and it still has its original headliner.

I have been told that Woolies in the UK can source the correct cloth headliner material...

...and it's better than any of the 'kits' available.

Thanks Rich, that's a real help8)

Looks right, as there are 'remnants' of the previous headlining left here and there.
The car already had the lining removed when we bought it, so we've got no rods or anything to help fit a new one.
If purchasing from Woolies, I assume it would be just the material and we'd need to get a specialist to cut and fit it?

There's also some left over square weave carpet behind the back seat (the rest was removed for some reason)and this is a white/beige colour as well - definitely not anthracite???

I think it is most likely that your car had Anthracite carpet in the front and a different colour in the rear, such as silver/grey or oatmeal. Most seemed to follow this trend.

Agreed Peter. No idea why VW did it, and it doesn't seem to be documented very well anywhere (or at least not accurately), but different colour carpets were often used for the rear luggage area vs. the rest of the car. Just been looking at my Ceramic Green '60 and the luggage area has Oatmeal carpet and the front has Anthractite (all original).

Interesting. When you say 'front' do you mean specifically in the front seats area only, or also behind the front seats? Sorry if this seems like a daft question.

Rich, any chance of some pics of your Ceramic Green 60?

Anthracite in the front...

Oatmeal in the rear..

Original Light Beige headliner...

Original door panels/seat covers etc...

The 'B' pillars on our 60 are covered with vinyl - but I assume this is incorrect? It will all be replaced with cloth.
This looks like the car that was on RestowagenUK recently - it caught my eye and I was going to email the owner for some pics, but thought it was a bit cheeky as he was selling the car :lol:

I only wish our lower door pillars were in the condition shown in your pics:cry:

Does anyone have any experience of TMI headlining kits as available from VW Heritage? I'm wondering if they are any good and also - does the kit have everything needed (obviously I would need to buy bows - but I'm not sure how many) and is there such a thing as underlay for headlinings or is this not required?

Again, sorry if these seem like daft questions!

Hi Steve - i am sure i bought a headlining kit from TMI for my '59 - basic instructions - good quality - just take your time in glueing and fitting - the finish was very good 😛
