Having discussed this for years with dear old Robin Allen, does anyone have the answer? His car had the horn on a factory bracket under the nearside front wing and previous owners confirmed that it had never been worked on in this area, but in old photos many 52s seem to have the horn on the bumper bracket. Which is correct for a production date of 26th May 1952? Thanks in advance.

Hi, It is mounted under the wing. Only 'Standard' cars had it mounted on an extension bracket spot-welded to the the left side bumper iron. Andy.

It's a Standard model I'm talking about. It has the bracket under the wing too, which has always confused us! Most 52 standards I have seen in old pictures have the horn on the bumper iron.

Strange that, I'll have to start peering under the wings of Standards to see if any have the bracket there. For some reason maybe a batch of cars were fitted with front quarter panels with the horn bracket? Another of those VW production mysteries! Maybe someone in Camberg can enlighten us this summer.
