For Sale - 1951 Split window crotch cooler beetle, full matching numbers.

Due to a change in personal circumstances my beloved split beetle is for sale. It was built in October 1951 and is a full matching numbers car. The car underwent a light restoration in 1989 with the exterior being repainted in the original colour of L73 Chestnut Brown. The interior is still original paint. The main interior itself is the original interior to the car although the headliner was replaced in '89 and a carpet set was fitted a couple of years ago. A set of NOS pillows was added by myself to finish it off.

The car is in a great overall condition with all the correct parts fitted, the paintwork shines very nicely and is a testament to the quality exterior repaint it received.

The engine is the original one to the car and was previously freshened up by a previous owner. Since I have taken ownership the engine has been serviced, carburettor rebuilt, correct fuel pump rebuilt and fitted, generator completely rebuilt and rewired, crank pulley replaced with an excellent virtannen reproduction which runs straight and true. NOS plugs were fitted and some excellent cloth braided ignition leads, again from Virtannen in Finland. It has the correct star coil fitted also. The air cleaner is not correct as it was fitted with an earlier mushroom type filter but I like it so it stayed. The engine runs super strong and has taken us across Europe with no problems. It is a car that I would happily get in and drive anywhere right now.

The gearbox is the original ‘crash’ gearbox and shifts lovely.

The wheels are the correct 16” riveted wheels with new 5.00/5.25 Crossply tyres fitted in 2022.

The rear lights have been converted to dual filament to also act as brake lights and the popes nose as a third brake light. Also fitted are LED bulbs so the rear lights are really nice and bright.

There is much more information to give to the right potential buyers. Whilst the car is not a pristine, concours level car it is a very nice car and that is highly useable, will take you anywhere and hold its own in shows. This is a car that deserves to be preserved so finding the right buyer is very important to me.
