On my car (a 1950 black oval dash split) the vase is on the grill in the middle like the earler post. I rekon there's no rule of thub to it. I have never seen an official VW picture of a fitted vase. In the 'New Beetle' (apologies) its in the middle, but I guess that's rather acedemic).:?

VW did not officially fit budvases. It was a dealer or after market option.
Some american manufacturers had been fitting budvases a good thirty years before VW was even dreamt of.Rolls Royce also fitted them.

Porceline ran through-out the fiftys and early sixties. It was an either/or(ie glass/porcelain,down to personal taste)

True, but the patterns seemed to change, I can only judge by the one in my 1949 car and can't believe that they made the exact pattern for over 5 years:?

BTW, DDN 931 is a smashing looker

Yes that is a fair point George, although I am assuming it would have been dealer fitted, the car being complete time-warp (my '49, not R********p that is), just the one owner from new.

WOW!! And thank you. I've been meaning to reply to the PM you sent me but have been rushed off my feet recently about the only time I'm on the net is while I'm on my breaks at work (honest!!) on my phone. I have a fair amount of bits with the car including a box of bits that look like 30 horse engine parts, including the oil bath air filter, various bumpers and other odds and sods and the bud vase too :d .

I've put the towel rails back on both bumpers are rusty to hell and currently I'm trying to decide wheather to get the OG (VW stamped :d ) overriders/bumpers rechromed or to buy Harrington Stainless one for the time being. Ultimatly I will get the OG ones done but stainless ones seem a good compromise especially up here in the winter and as the car is my daily now.

When was it that dealers eventually stopped supplying/fitting the vases.:?

I ask this because they seem to fit in with the old double dash split-window dash layout better than the later cars.
