That's actually incorrect. Quite a few licencing areas didn't adopt the 'A' plate and only started issuing suffix plates in '64 with the 'B' series. On top of that, a small handful of licencing authorities were still issuing non-suffix plates in 1965 after the 'C' plates had been introduced.

You're correct about the London plates though. Regions such as Middlesex started in Feb 63 though.

That's interesting that some authorities held back until the 'B' plate, and this also explains further why so many 'A' plates were not issued at the time.

Hampshire never issued "A" plates..."B" in 1963 was the first suffix. I always thought "A" plates were only issued to the "Home Counties."

I know for certain about London's waiting – I remember my Dad's 1964 London registered Ford Zephyr with its non-suffix plate very well.

BBT do ask top prices, one or two cars they've had up for sale for a couple of years now. It seems that they must hold out for their prices.:?

Don't want to cast a downer on this excellent car, but shouldn't the cloth interior be 'salt 'n' pepper pattern. Wasn't the stripe pattern used on the later Standard models
