thanks guys, just trying to make it more factory.

i know what you mean about crossplys, but this car will never see rain, so im not bothered :lol:

love your wheel/tyre combo, any overall car photos? want to get some 356 steels for my 62 :thumbup:

Hi

PS Car is OG paint with 37000 miles on clock. There are stone chips, tiny dents, faded bits and paint which is at best, tired. However a repaint is out of the question as then it would be just another renovated car. Hence the title " Warts n all"

what a lovely car, and yes i prefer them all og, just a shame that mine was far to rusty, that i had to partially restore it.

took the tank out today, its getting a repaint in the correct semi gloss black.

Car's looking cool. I'm a tyre freak so take particular interest in them. Cross ply's look OE but lets hope it doesn't rain:omg: :omg: Radials were available in the 60's you know. I have Michelin XAS 165's on my 65 and all I can say is that it's very good in the wet

Hi

I bought them from Longstone Tyres if you go on their website it gives all the dimension for both radials and cross ply tyres.

However the 165 Michelin XAS are a little wider than the 5.60 x 15 cross ply but a similar diameter +/- 2mm.

Hello Robb,

When you powder coated your wheels, what sort of masking tape did you use? Also, what paint did you use for the Lotus White band?

Did you rattle can, or have some mixed and gunned on?

Going to attempt to do mine myself :omg:

hi mate,

i powdercoated them the hub colour, then carefully scuffed the rim with a scotchbrite pad to key the paint. Then i used fine line masking tape, to get right into the groove, then finished by masking the rest of the hub with normal tape and brown paper.

theres a local bodyshop supplies that mixs the paint from the og codes, so they mixed me up a few cans. most bodyshops will do the same, as there is so little paint needed, not worth getting a proper gun out, and then clean it all etc!

how much? £350? wow, may go into business then!

just make sure you do plenty of light/thin coats, rather then chuck loads of paint on at once, and let it flash off between coats too.

Hi

I powder coated my wheels black, then used a circular piece of steel with a rubber strip the same diameter as the outer rim. I then used OG paint aerosols to paint the rims in the correct colour. You need to angle the cans but it works fine.

Before you removed the fine line masking tape, did you gently run a sharp blade along the junction of where the black and Lotus white meet, to prevent the tape 'tearing' the white paint film?
