First time for the 59 on the queens highway for many years. A little fetteling here and there but all seems ok  The smell of burning paint and oil as she gets back to normal brings back memories. Must be well over 10 years since i drove one on the road :d

Actually drove it, since the sun managed to come out and the roads were dry. Seems to run ok. Nothing fell off. Result.

I had a productive lunchtime today!!

I have a really nice 1970 1300 Beetle with Full Volkswagen Service History from new  At 53,026 miles the orignal speedometer stopped working, so the Volkswagen dealership fitted a new one in 1989. The car covered a further 6,057 miles on this new speedometer, making a total of 59,083 miles. I just had the original speedometer rebuilt and re-set to the correct mileage and installed that today...

Don't worry, my Volkswagen warranty as per the sticker on the quarterlight window has not been invalidated. Only genuine VW parts were used in the process...

I also swapped over the rear bumper on my Australian 1959 RHD Beetle, replacing the bent and rusty one..

Well, this morning George and I made the trip over to Burnley equiped with a car trailer on the back of my brother's jeep to bring my oval home. Will post some pictures up in the 'Restorations' thread in a couple of days.

But I will say that I made the right decision to give it to Hooky to do all the welding

Hi Chris,

That's great news:thumbup: , and I'm sure you'll be delighted with it. I had Steve repair my rear wings, and make up some small panels, all superbly done. What are you doing regarding paint?

I've got mine home now too, I'll need to post up some pictures.

Gavin.

Today, I did something I have never done with any of my Volkswagens before- fitted a Blaupunkt radio! I've owned many hundreds of these radios over the years and fitted them in other people's cars, but never one in my own VW!!

The '56 Cabrio had a Blaupunkt Bremen AM radio in it which had stopped working...

UserPostedImage

I decided I needed something that worked and also FM, so I fitted a '57 model Blaupunkt Frankfurt from my collection...

Finally dug the ragtop out of the barn and moved it to.... the greenhouse! Itยดs a former commercial glasshouse, used as a workshop, by the local club guys. Yes, it gets hot! I can work on the car there, at least until the summer season is over and the club guys cars need to get stored again.
