It appears that Luigi Colani grew up in Berlin... and went to Paris as a young designer.( A shoe designer to be exact :))He went back to Berlin in 1955 or so... and worked for Rometsch and Erdman and Rossi. At Rometsch he designed some of the Fiat cars.

I found this info in book on Colani's history. He became more famous in the late sixties and early seventies.

Does anyone know more about Colani and Rometsch?

...picked up the Rometsch-inventary for Traugott, Mr. Kaulmann geve an ungly master modell. He told us, that Lutz (Luigi) Colani started as a trainee at Rometsch. At that moment, nobody knows that Luigi will be once a time one of the most important Designer of the 2oth century. When Luigi Colani heard that there is somebody collects Rometsch cars, he asked Christian to visit the collection. He told him that the Beeskow is one of the preetiest cars ever built. We don*t want to comment this...

I've heard that before from another source that Colani was an apprentice at Erdmann & Rossi and Rometsch (both companies Beeskow worked for).

German literature tells that Colani gained the "Golden Rose" at the Geneva Autoshow 1954 for his design of the Fiat 1100 TV. Does that somehow sound familiar...?
