Some of these London councils hate cars pure and simple. The more prestigious the car the more they hate it:!:

I've heard of this type of incident before with London councils. Not long ago a 2 year-old car was seen to be crushed by a north London council – just because it was untaxed I am told…

Perhaps the more lowly Beetle is safe:?:

I kept this post from A Porsche 914 group I used to subscribe to...

"Some of you may remember, that on the 4th of January I returned home
from holiday to find my car trailer had been stolen off the back of
my Land Rover.

Thieves had smashed the lock and taken it from outside my
neighbour's living room window at 2am! I was mortified...

I immediately called the police, who were so uninterested I drove
immediately to Whetstone Police Station to complain in person, and
reported the crime.

It was left to me to knock on local neighbours doors and then report
their observations back to the police.

I rang the police at least three or four times over the next few
weeks - not an easy thing to actually speak to someone I can tell
you!

Nothing had been seen or heard of my beloved trailer - until my wife
returned home yesterday to open an envelope from Barnet Council with
an invoice for £155 for the "disposal" of it!

It transpires the council had found my trailer on the 11th of
January and, despite our number plate being attached to the trailer,
they had "crushed" the vehicle without making any efforts to contact
us!

Clearly being able to ascertain who the legal owners were, they
nonetheless pressed ahead and "crushed" my perfectly serviceable
trailer. Only then did they bother to contact us - to send an
invoice for their services rendered!

I was most "upset" when I rang them - only to be patronised with
bureaucratic rhetoric and treated like an insignificant in a
Totalitarian State!

I have to confess that my anger boiled over at this point and I told
the Stalinist protégé how he was making me feel (and I meant every
last word)!

So I ask you the question:
Who are the real thieves? The people who stole my trailer or Barnet
Council who found it and then crushed it, like Stalin might some
upstart - only contacting me AFTER irreversibly disposing of it, to
send a bill, when it had been reported stolen a full week before???

It sickens me to find that in this `Brave New World' the authorities
are more interested in following up parking tickets and speed
cameras than they are real crime...

There was no sympathy only a mocking irony that; if I provided them
with evidence they might, only might mind, let me off the disposal
charge. Yet, the trailer was my property and they had destroyed it
knowing all the time my address and not contacting me...

I will be suing..."
