Just dropped in to say hello!

Needless to say, I'm pretty stoked by the turmoil this has created. And I can add that the owner of the centrepiece of all this, also has been reading the topic on TheSamba!
I'll continue updating that thread as soon as I get more information. That includes making a trip to Lithuania to have personal look at the car.

Happy reading!

Yes thanks for your posts Undis. Thankfully most of the crap posts on the Samba topic have been removed leaving just the serious discussions.8)

I'm sure the owner now has a good idea of the importance of his car. Hopefully he'll also be sensible enough when he comes to sell it, not to ask a rediculous amount and to choose who he sells it to carefully, although I can only see serious players making a bid for it.

I'll kick off the bids here with £8,000 :d

But I think to restore this very interesting VW relic, a reasonable mid1940's Beetle will need to be sacrificed. So more big money. I'm not sure how I would go about this but as the '38 has no chassis and not much else, it may be a case of transferring as much of its remains to the donor car as possible, then fabricating missing '38 features:?:

Problem here though, without the '38 chassis the car will never actually be accepted as a 1938 car – registration for example.

If this car goes to the right person, it will get restored with NOS panels from 1938! And who knows, maybe even a correct chassis will show up... I don't think a mid-fourties beetle will be much help here. Only original metal and handmade parts from original blueprints will do in this case:wink:

No matter how you look at it, this car cannot be resurected without the help of some very serious players who got the knowledge and the parts to do the job right. The owner is aware of this too.

I am saving this as evidence that you actually said it!!

I agree it has to be dropped onto an old pan, a 1950 standard would still be acceptable and be far cheaper and more ok 'to sacrifice' than a 40s bug in the name of the greater good?

'NOS 38 panels'? I think that is a language/translation blip?

What she said! Does anyone know whats under the reconstuctions of the VW2 and 3 that VW have? I´m betting they don´t have original prototype engines and gearboxes. "As good as you can" will probably have to do for some parts on this car, when it is eventually rebuilt.

Must be:!:

I'd love too see these 'NOS 38 panels'

A mid '40s Beetle is a huge sacrifice I agree. But you couldn't use a KdF, that's for sure, even rarer.

But I feel the donor car would need to be as early as poss, and 1950's just doesn't cut it.

However a Kubel chassis would be a good compromise
