Out for a drive today since the sun was out - and yes, I got the top down. Drove past a VW dealership in a village and happened to notice a Beetle in the window. Went back and got some photos through the window. Sorry about the quality, but that was an immaculate restored circa 58 standard Beetle and a whole row of others; mostly 1303s but there was a 65 in there too, a Variant and a 411.

Wow! :d

Was it a sort of "nostalgia" day? I know that a few dealers over here have had old bugs and splits in the showroom for photos for local newspapers etc!

Good find!8)

I think they were all the dealers collection. There were various motors lying about and a 1303 cabrio under restoration in a lot of bits.

That was the unexpected find. I also visited another Beetle repair place and sat in a 77000kms from new/original paint Variant which was the owners summer car. His winter Variant had over 1,000,000kms on it! They have a bunch of cars in the junk compound there, but not much of interest here apart from an early sunroof car in pretty poor shape.
Stumbled on a Porsche repair garage too and stopped for a chat since the guy was there. There was a 356B Cabrio at the back.

Wow! It looks like mine! Do I also detect a sunroof? Must have been imported from Germany at some point. I would love to contact the owner for a bit of a chat.
It looks like it's in the correct Standard shade of L344 Rush Green. Please, please...more info!

Funny - I could have sworn it didn´t have a sunroof. Sure looks like it in the pictures though. Wierd!
What would you like to know, if I happen by there again?

I'd love a nice couple of pics of it if possible for my photo collection of Standards and know maybe what year it is, although it can only really be from 1958 or 1959. From photos I've seen, this now makes it the 5th or 6th early square-window Standard sunroof VW known to have survived. If this one is indeed L344 Rush Green, then it's the only one I've ever:shock: seen with a sunroof.

I´m really not at all sure it has a sunroof you know. I like sunroofs - I notice them! I can´t explain the photos though! Trick of the light I think. Suppose I´d better go back now, huh?

Heres a 66? standard I saw at another show.

Think that's the light causing strange reflections.
A sunroof car would have the cover coming much lower to the back window.
Don't think you'll find it's a sunroof.

You know, I do think it is a sunroof car, George. Look at it from the front and then see this Reseda Green Deluxe sunroof car; The canvas patch does start quite a long way away from the rear window, like the strange dark shadow on the roof of the Standard.  Photo-0106.jpg You have insufficient rights to see the content.  L14.jpg You have insufficient rights to see the content.

What about this one, pretty conclusive that it does have a sunroof I'd say....

Yes, I am putting a tenner on its a sunroof too

Is that a convertible AU1000 JD! I LOVE THOSE!! often see the tin roof ones but not so often a nice clean kab

That standard is a LOVELY colour too! I had no idea they came in such great colours, I thought they were nearly all concrete

What is the 911 model? and is that a triple white Kab?

Why didnt you take MORE pics! UserPostedImage

Didnt remember it being a sunroof eh?... UserPostedImage

The DKW is not a convertible. Converts of these were also made by Karmann IIRC, so that explains why there are none left! Nice old car though.

The standard really was a beautiful colour. Quite greeny, not "concrete" as you so accurately put it.

There were two 911s there, both silver early cars. One done out in Martini stripes.
I lost count of how many 03 cabs were in there. One of them was purple though!

I promise to go back and get more pics on a Saturday when they may be open.
How much is your top bid on the Standard Mr REME?
