You simply cannot get this weave of cloth although Himmelservice do a similar one for mid-60s cars.  DSCF0656.JPG You have insufficient rights to see the content.

It is a shame that Mike's car gave up it's seats, but that was Mike's choice and Nicolas' car is all the better for it.

Yes that standard fabric is unusual, we have some odd seats in the other grey deluxe cloth.
Interestingly ( but not standard) in the gulf61 we have is another odd fabric that I had not seen before ( O has) I guess its another odd short period fabric too.

I have decided to reply to the response made to my comments made regarding the two Standard models last week. The twisted expression of my Tatra 97 in my avatar gives one an idea of my reaction at the time to NCF's response :!:

My car happens to be completely original (apart from one front wing) with matching numbers and engine. Being a unique customer-specific model ordered in a Deluxe finish actually made it easy for me to decide which of the two cars was more worthy of having the seats. I'm sorry that this 58 lost its interior but the guy didn't seem to be too bothered as he wanted to upgrade it anyway. I certainly put the pressure on him because I believe it was important to restore the unusual look of my car with otherwise all correct parts and upholstery of the period and type to match.
It's not the first time parts from a rare car have been sacrificed to help another one which might happen to be even a little rarer.
This said, I don't know why you interfere with this subject in this section since all you keep telling us (over and over and over again for that matter!) is how there is only one valid and unsurpassed model in your eyes anyway, a not-so-shiny standard split window...something we've been reading from you time and time again.:lol:

I find the tone in you comment is unacceptable. You proceed to launch a mild attack on my cars, some of which you have not seen, not even in a picture. I am not so sensitive about my cars (look at the horrors going-on in the world), although to me they are great and the result of a lifetime’s collecting, but if someone thinks they’re junk, then that is their opinion, to which they are entitled to of course. But I repeat, you do have a nice car, although its not of the type I would buy myself.

How odd that someone buying seats from someone else who clearly didn't want them anymore would spark such an argument, I can't help feeling that there's some unresolved history thats getting aired here - and if thats the case then this isn't the place 😳

Look John, I'm not out at war here and I'm not interested in pursuing this feud. I am not bothered by what you think of my car since I know its worth and limits and that's good enough for me. However you are bound to attract criticism when making sweeping statements about vehicles you have never seen in the flesh. It's your attitude that gets me and as I mentioned before, your consistent need to tell us that nothing which isn't Standard, has a shiny finish and an enlarged front windscreen is to your liking. Quite frankly...who cares? It really isn't very interesting to anybody in this forum. It's your taste and I'm very happy for you. That's why I thought there was no need for you to get involved in this thread since we are dealing with models you're not so keen on anyway.
I don't always like every car discussed on this forum but it certainly isn't my right to go stating this since it would be a bit tactless and irrelevant to other readers anyway.
You have all the models you ever dreamed of and I have mine, that's what matters. So why not leave it at that and put a smile on your face as the sun is shining, ok?:wink:

I don't know of any of these other owners responding in such a manner as you Nicolas. The upshot is that I made a comment on a thread discussing your car and the Standard that has been mucked-about with. I felt that the other Standard was a particularly nice car before being customised, and more in keeping with the Standard ethos in that it has no frills whatsoever – it does not have a sunroof.

Am I not allowed to say that the larger windscreen from late '57 on spoils the lovely curvy shape of an old Beetle, or that a sunroof spoils the curves too. Other people may be interested in these comments as they may be new to the scene, and for instance may be considering buying an early VW and had not realised or considered these points. You'd be surprised how many 'newbies' do not know of the windscreen enlargement in 1957. I have also said I have a preference for pre Aug '55 Ovals as those built after that do not have the old-style ribbed doors. Am I not allowed to mention this because as you say, and I quote you 'It really isn't very interesting to anybody in this forum'. A person considering buying an Oval may not know of this, (and I've met many that don't), and this new knowledge could help the decide between 2 or 3 cars on offer. That's what a forum is for – sharing knowledge and advice :d

A car is at the end of the day a piece of sheet metal, we love our Beetles but they are not as important as the people that cherish them.

So, please, please. please, don't plaster your car all over the forum you don't want comments and criticism :wink:
