A promise was made to take Rattletrap to Lavenham, 1958 cars are too late:roll:

As
Lavenham is not until 2012, over a year away, I'll be presenting a car for another MOT. It may well be
Rattletrap, but I'm not taking him to an MOT station that won't care and appreciate what a special vintage car
Rattletrap is.He's family, you wouldn't leave your beloved cat or dog at some back street vet:wink:
I'd hate to think what sheds people would drive in the UK if an MOT was not needed for 'classic' cars.
Why would they need to get into the under bonnet area? Just leave the spare on the back seat if (I'm not sure it's even tested) you think they might bend your bonnet/prop etc.
As far as the rest goes, I see no reason why you couldn't be present at the MOT. At my MOT place I could stand a few metres form the car if I really wanted.

They always look under the bonnet, ID plates and structure, the latter more an issue with the 1303 McPhurson strut cars, but they see Beetles as all the same. They also have to check that bonnets shut securely.
'Health and Safety' has made stations aware that it is their responsibilty to keep members of the pulic in a 'safe' area - that's what I was strictly told:roll:
In Ireland there is No MOT Required on Pre 1980 Car's , Yes there are alot of Heap's on The Road !
