Although not technically done to the car, I have just had a new roof put on the garage as the old one leaked. And last week had an e-mail from the body shop to say that they will be ready to take my car in within the next six weeks :thumbup:

Took the single cab out for its first ride since engine rebuild,done 20miles & so far so good,running well & no leaks:d

Spent friday evening steam cleaning the 1500 motor - AKA, removing the dirt from the motor and applying it liberally to me. Progress though, I actually started putting bits back on it.
Saturday I went to see my pal and collect a few parts from him. Bits of tin that are slightly less knackered than what I have and a broken IRS gearbox, to chop the end off, to make a starter rig, for me and Zehbeh. Should make life easier.
It also meant that I got to have a nose round my pals other barn, which contains a Wehrmacht Kübel, a KG cabrio, a Lowlight KG cabrio, a Type 3 Ghia, a late bay and a late fifties sunroof Beetle, and about 400 various body panels.

Got into the garage today and had a bit of a clear out. Got rid of a lot of sh1t that had accumilated over the years and brushed the floor of all the leaves that had somehow managed to find their way in there :unsure:

Then managed to remove the tarpoulin that had been covering the body of the car for the last two years and left the car 'air'. Feels good to finally see some light at the end of the tunnel :thumbup:

Gearbox back in with new return spring, hubs built up, handbrake cables threaded, oil slinger tube things repaired and fitted to new rear drums, starter wired up, engine bay seals fitted, tarboards repaired and refitted. It may not sound much but it's more than I've achieved in the past three years. Engine in by the end of the week? A nice idea... Target Stanford. The original target was Stanford 2007, but hey ho...

Mine's been sat since Oct last year. I charged the battery up, sprayed a little bit of easy start into the carb - and up it started.

Took the single cab to work y'day, today gave my camper a good clean up as havent touched it since brighton breeze,then adjusted clutch on the cab & went for a cruise to clock up some more running in miles:wink:

Reconnected the battery on Old Blue last Saturday after hibernation. Started first time. Yes I know Old Blue's a 1968, but its still of the type, and impressive.:thumbup:

Good and pleased you did not need easy start. More than one "old sage" told me many years ago that engines become addicted to this stuff; no logical or technical explanation for this, as far as I know, but I have found it to be true on all sorts of engines (tractors, lorries, lawnmowers and cars) over the years.

Yes its true. We had an old Ford recovery truck ex AA and that was fitted with a Kiye gass system already plumbed in to get it started. It was a right camle to get her to fire up and had to use easy start as well. I dont know who got the most buzz off the ether the truck or me. :cry: :cry: :omg:

It's most likely because the stuff works, when an engine is tired, spark is low, fuel is old - it's not going to start on it's own, so you constantly use the stuff instead of fixing the problem.

I used it on mine because I could see in the fuel filter the brown colour of the fuel, when it's old it loses its octane. Yes I could have drained the system and replaced the fuel with fresh, or I could spray some easystart into it for 2 seconds.

I did however, walk around the car 10 times, jump up and down, wind all the windows down then back up before I started it. It seemed to work, although theres no logical or technical explanation for this...

I got the '59 running on Saturday for the first time in years. It took me at least 4 minutes to get it started :)

A car kept in prime condition as Old Blue is should start without any additional aid, as indeed Old Blue did, and always does.8)

The electricals are always well damp proofed with a spray and the engine cocooned with a wool blanket prior to a winter lay up. I always make sure there is a good ventilation flowing under Old Blue too, with a dehumidifier placed inside the car.
