Finally put the engine together...not ready to start it up though. i still need to adjust things here and there.

One weird thing I ran into was that the open choke valve touched the inside bottom of the oilbath airfilter, but hit it a couple times with a hammer:d and things are smooth now.
Also I never noticed there was a felt washer inside to seal the top of the carb!
These filters are really tight in the back dispite the notch they have; I can still spot the wear of who knows how many K's on the doghouse. The exact reason the indent on later 30hp doghouses were introduced. Interesting stuff...

Starting will be next week:omg:  30hp (Small).JPG You have insufficient rights to see the content.  30hp' (Small).JPG You have insufficient rights to see the content.  30hp'' (Small).JPG You have insufficient rights to see the content.

I've been changing my starter motor, I decided to put a 12v one in since the car is now 12v. This means changing the flywheel and clutch. Got the new flywheel and clutch on today and got the engine back in. Still need to put the heat exchangers and exhaust back on but rain stopped play.

Not yet Nico, I am now stripping it and will be spraying it black again with high temperature paint because the old paint was too far gone to look good.

The oval has to get ready for MOT next week so I installed the engine with the repro I had for the time being.
I'll let you know as soon as I have it inspected and bolted on. I'm very curious myself!
Thanks for your interest,

Cheers, Peter

 Not yet MOT'd.
Rust hole in manifold made engine sputter and misfire 500 meters away from station. Couldn't move on in this state and had to get it towed home.
Oh well, we'll get it fixed!

Have had a MAJOR setback with my Oval.

We'd spent considerable time removing underseal, stripping bits off the chassis before welding in new Wolfsburg West floorpans, and we took it to a local powdercoating firm. They rang and told me I could come and pick it up without charge, but when I went in it was obvious why.

Both floorpan edges have been twisted underneath, the floorplates are buckled along with the seat runners, and all our hard work is ruined. Thankfully the central tunnel, frame head and rear forks are undamaged. It looks as if it's got caught in the doors of the blasting cabinet, which have tried to close while the chassis was still on the conveyor belt.

The firm have admitted liability, and are stumping up the cost of the repairs, as well as the new 'pans. I've taken delivery of new WW pans this morning, however it won't be going anywhere near this lot again!!

I'm gutted, not only for the damage, but also for Clark, who'd done all the welding.
