Oh i dunno...Ghias are horrible to work on as you can't get the wings off without resort to an angle grinder.
Probably the same as your Kabrio come to think of it. 😃

It's got the lowlight front and the facelift rear. Quite easy to change the rear light apertures to the smaller lowlight versions. What year does the vin number reveal Rob? Looks like it has remnants of a dash pad which would indicate a '59.

were there two different sizes of lowlight Karmann Ghia badge for the rear engine cover?

Thanks John. I'm so confused... (not difficult).

We bought a Karmann script from Camberg, I brought it home and it doesn't fit. Initially I thought maybe it was a later decklid replaced along with the back lights, but some research on your Samba thread shows that it's the correct engine lid.

So I have a lowlight decklid and a large badge, but they don't go together.

I would say Rob you have a later decklid. The early lid was not unique to the Lowlight era as you'll see with this picture of a '67 decklid...

That will explain the spacing of the mounting holes.

So they changed to the smooth panel, then changed back again in the 60's?

For much of the production years the decklid was the same, the only difference being the spacing of the holes for the script and much later ones had a plastic rain tray. Quite often the plastic rain tray was removed on later '70s cars to improve air flow for larger custom engines.

Well I can't believe it's been 4 years already and I've not really touched the Ghia, collected a few parts though - and finally sent off for the birth certificate, looks like it was originally Bamboo and found the original colour under many layers on the glovebox.
