Ok, dumb question - my 58 has a fuel tap and I have no idea which way it should be when the tank is full, and when using the reserve?

Also, how much is normally left when in the reserve? Does the engine just cut out on you when you get there, and then you turn the switch and you can restart again ok?

I have a dipstick too, and not planning on running into the reserve if I can help it, but it would be nice to know how it all works incase I do need it :)

Ta! :d

Normal running the fuel tap lever should be pointing straight up.
When the car starts to splutter and cut out you know you have reached the reserve level ( One gallon left)
This is the time to turn the fuel tap lever to the 3 'o'clock position to run on the reserve and get yourself to a petrol station.
The fuel tap lever can be turned to half way between normal and reserve. At this point the fuel is isolated to the fuel pump.
