Well, I like them. Picked up this pair last weekend. They´re Mann filters, originally intended for VW industrial motors, and as such fit right onto a 28PCI Solex. Thought they´d maybe look a bit more vintage than my rather glossy - though doubtless ruthlessly efficient - Riechert filters.

Gave them a soak in vinegar to get the rust off, and a quick bit of rattle can paint and a good clean out with some Cillit Bang(!)later and here you go.

Anyone else running these?

I wondered why you never see a rusty pickled onion.
Never heard of this before,does it work like a gentle acid bath?

Absolutely. Bung the stuff in a plastic tub for a few days, or longer if need be - ideally with a lid, as it stinks - and the rust will either disappear completely or you´ll be able to brush it off very easily with a wire brush. It looks rather like its been blasted afterwards. It took the paint off the filters too. They weren´t very rusty to start with mind you, but it´ll go through heavy rust also. Works better if its not left out in the cold either. Oh and get paint on it quick too, because the moisture in the air will set it rusting again very quickly. The advantage over blasting is a) I don´t have a blast cabinet and b) it won´t remove or soften any stamped in lettering or markings that you need to keep. Haven´t tried it on ally parts either. I think it may go a bit Alka Seltzer.
