Hello,
My name is Ray, and this is my first post to pre67vw. I wanted to introduce myself to the community, and let you know what I am working on.
Currently in the garage is my second Beetle I have owned. Its a 1967 Sunroof Bug. VIN is 117435420. Its original color is one of the several red colors, I am not for sure because it has been painted before, but the inside looks like Ruby Red?
Anyways, I am somewhat new to the VW scene. I owned my first 69 Beetle several years ago and rebuilt it from a wreck, where the previous owner took the ditch and bent the front axle and destroyed most the passenger side front body.
I restored from the frame up a 1970 Chevelle during those years, so I am not new to the restoration world, just somewhat new to VW. So this 67' Bug is the earliest VW I have owned thus far. Can the pre67vw community give me some advice on restoring this car?
I would like to restore this beetle so that it would be as stock as possible. I don't have an engine for it, so I was thinking of upgrading from the 1500 single to a 1776 Dual. I am not going concours, but want it to look stock. I will be driving it somewhat daily, so that is why I want the larger motor, for the long Oklahoma freeways.
Is there any way I can tell by a code what the exact original body color was? I have been thinking of changing the color, but this car has no documentation, so I think unless there is a color code, I will be changing the color to another other than red.
One last thing for now, can any of you VW experts tell me anything interesting about my bug by looking at the VIN number? I see that it is an early 67', possibly made in Dec 66 through early 67'. Is the sunroof a rare option for a 67? Is there anything particularly unique to a 67 that I should be aware of? Thanks alot!
Ray
