Hi everyone. I got my 1966 beetle out of the garage after a spell of hibernation through the winter. It was all running well prior to garaging. Once we got it going the red light wont go off. (it is running on a 12V system by the way)
We have done the following:

1) Removed regulator and cleaned all points on it.
2) Checked all connections on regulator.
3) Renewed brushes on dynamo.
4) Cleaned armature on dynamo.
5) Exchanged regulator for known good one and checked again.
6) Cleaned spade terminals on dynamo connections.

We started the car after each stage and the red light is still on! It doesn't even flicker on high revs

Can anyone help?

Thanks 🙂 Leane :?

If you're sure you have tested it with a known, good regulator, and the wiring is ok, then the dynamo is at fault.

Follow this.

It may just need polarising.

Thank you guys.
We will try re-polarising the dynamo as other people too have mentioned this could be the issue. I'll let you know how we get on
