 Hello! Can I pick somebody's brains?

Does anyone know any connection between Adler and the beetle.
I've got a wicked poster of a split screen describing it as Adler 2.5 litre 6 sylinder 58ps. Ring a bell to anyone? Really interested to find out the year
ps.s used to have a 1303 but the cost of welding got to me! The poster is much easier to maintain.

Thank you now

Are you sure its not just an Adler that looks similar to a Beetle?

Hey! That's the one! Ah! Fits into place now

Mmmm, Rob - be interested in your opinion of this model. I love the design.

Read some guy who thought this model was one of the finest and "would certainly have had a greater influence [on the beetle] if Adler had been one of the major producers"

What do you reckon

(or is it all a bit too heavy  )

I do really like the look of this car from what I've seen in photo's. I'm not convinced that Adler would have had a bigger influence on the design of the beetle though, the core of the beetle's design is a cheap utilitarian auto, thats what determined nearly every descision on the original car. The aircooled engine was lighter and had less parts, needed less power to drive it, the floorpan instead of a heavy chassis - etc etc. The original Kdf beetles were incredibly basic. The Adler looks to me to be a much more luxurious car for the time.

Having said that, it does appear that a few ideas were 'borrowed' from Tatra and incorporated into the beetle.

There is a thin link between Adler and VW, and that is Karmann - Karmann used to make the convertible Adler Trumpf:

And later went on to build the beetle cabrios.

I can contribute saying that this type of Adler is called : " Autobahn " - Adler.
It is very, very rare and you can count them on the fingers of your hand.
If you find one, make shure that it is complete , otherways the restoration wil be a nightmare !

I once was on the search to get one, I first found a split window Rometsch Beeskow : this says it all !!

Rob,
1) Was the car above really made by Rometsch?
2) I saw a split screen Securicor Bullet proof money delivery van today and I wonder if you know of a link between this and the Bulli?
Bulli-proof and all that sort of connection.
Let me know, cheers.

Hi Heathermoor,

There are about 25 Adler 2,5L "Autobahn" Limousine and only 6 Karmann Cabriolet known worldwide (one at the Karmann museum in Osnabrück, one at the EFA museum in Bavaria).

You can find a bit more information on following site
