Here is a photo I took yesterday at a Park Avenue Showroom in Manhattan. It's the 1938 Auto Union Racer that will be sold at the Christie's Auction next Month in Paris. It's been all over the Newspapers here in New York. The car was designed by Ferdinand Porsche. Very interesting piece of History. It's expected to reach the record price ever paid for an automobile. There is Lot's of detailed info about the car on the internet for those who are interested.

Yes, you're right. That does about says it all!
The Type D had a torsion bar front Axel, a swing axle transmission and rear engine of course. It also was one of the first cars developed to have a limited slip differential in the rear (a Porsche Design). Hmmm, didnt Kubelwagens have them too? Sounds familiar doesnt it.......?

Talk of the show, undoubtedly, was the Auto Union D Type that was withdrawn from the Christie’s auction just days before the sale, ‘pending further exploration into the car’s race history’, as Christie’s put it.
