Is that fact or gossip John?
Which vehicle?
Seriously good vehicles will command a price we all think is too much.
But there is some BIG money in this hobby now.The "right" car is probably out of reach for the most of us now.

Fact, George. I saw it listed in one of the mainstream Classic Car magazine auction results. Volkswold Magazine touched on it a couple of month's ago, and they considered the selling price to be over the top. It was a nice original bus, but repainted
Unlike other 'old cars' where interest and value drops as a generation that had nostalgia for them pass away, old Beetles have young people moving into the scene that love them although they cannot have been around when Beetles were an everyday car. It seems that certain old VWs are seen as a blue-chip investment now, but then where else is safe for your hard-earned cash. You are right – this is becoming a big money hobby
High values mean some individuals will try to pass off fakes like the one discussed on this thread as the real thing.
As I've probably bored some folk by repeating – be very wary of Zwitters. Although this particular one is obviously junk, there are some good fakes in circulation. This also shows how much more a split is held in regard than an oval.
