Hi,

I'm after some advice on how to fit a Rosenthal bud vase in my Oval

and also the ashtray on the dashboard is totally jammed. I've used a bit of gentle persuasion but it still won't move.

Just out of interest is the bud vase worth some money? Its just that KK have the same one for sale for silly money (for a wee bit of china). It's not for sale by the way

Thanks,
Paddy

You need a dashboard clip to fit.
A small metal sheath that takes the "V" shaped bracket on the back of the vase. The top mount in the picture below enables you to fit without drilling,it fits behind the windscreen rubber. The other mounts require holes, some people fit them thru' the speaker grill, thus not having to drill your dash.
Prices do go over the £100,but this is for the more ornate, rarer vases.  2377400.jpg You have insufficient rights to see the content.

Have just checked 'thru my drawers.
I have three spare clips, the same as the middle one in the pic above^^^^^^^.If you look at the pic there are different widths i.e the clip on the back of some vases is slightly wider.
I also have a strange looking one that somewhere fits behind a switch on the dashboard,i'll take a pic later today and post it here this evening.

Don't be put off by the KK price - you have a real gem, and worth good money. Its exactly the same as that in my '49. Be VERY careful when fitting, you'll be well upset if you chip it.

The split dash is of course different from the ovals (except Rattletrap's) and Zwitters. However the wrong place to fit on a split dash is right in the middle, which I've seen done. How do you operate the semaphore switch with flowers in front of it :?

Have you got one that fit under the rubber?

And anyone know what would the nicest (rarest?) vase be for early 1955?

OK camera up and running.
I'd be interested in peoples opinions as to where and how the odd shaped bracket would fit to a car.Note the angles,so it could be for a LHD or RHD car only.It would appear to fit behind someting that is already part of the dash Switch, ashtray fastening etc.

I think that if anything, the vase shown at the top maybe too early for an oval. As my '49 has that type, and I don't know how long production ran for. I think that cut-glass types are more oval era :?:

Martin,isn't this your car?
Did the vase go missing, seemed like a strange place a previous owner mounted it.  2397824461_aac9d98889.jpg You have insufficient rights to see the content.

Yep, that's when Mike Attewell owned it. Vase didn't come with the car.

I was thinking it would be a nice addition, just not sure whether to go for a porcelain or glass version. I'm sure I've seen blue glass versions which would match the colour of the car nicely. Don't want to drill holes in the dash so the holder which is secured by the screen rubber would be best for me.

I agree about the mounting location. I'd be looking for it to see between the speedo and Motometer panel.

Interesting bracket you got there George. I've not ever seen one like that before.

Surely it should be nowhere near the steering wheel or driver. You have to imagine it with flowers in it, then there's the distraction:roll:

The way to end a good day out with your Split is with an Ovaltine!
