I'm all for safety upgrades, but do you really think you'll be stopping quick enough for someone to rear-end you? You're much more likely to rear-end the car in front when he slams on his ABS

I'll keep my duistance where possible.

Happy not to take the rear end risk.

Like I say - it's no biggie, it can be changed back in 10 mins and is an invisible mod - no down sides.

The trouble is, you leave enough distance between you and the car in front and someone just pulls into it. I've noticed this with the icy roads this year. People really do drive like idiots...

I personally am in favour of any safety mods, my '65 now has dual circuit brakes, seat belts and bright lights due to 12v. Whether or not it takes 10 minutes to swap back doesn't concern me because I won't be doing it.

Enough already - peace to all men...

Lets talk about rusty washers instead. :d

Just waiting for the postman to come knocking with my NOS front trans mount now before a flurry and blur of activity starts.

I reckon we'll have a start up video posted in Feb at the latest.

Or if not, at least a movie called "Honey I blew up the Oval!"

Its getting on for 30 years ago George, MRT308 was a mere youngster then. We're looking at '70s Beetles well over that age now - frightening

We all getting together for a cuddle at Stanford Hall by the way??

Never been before so I'll need someone to hold my hand etc.

Still waiting for NOS front mount to arrive from 'House of Ghia' in the states....

Please can someone point me to a website/company that can provide me with the correct size/style number plates so I can get some made up when it's time for registration?

Do I want flat pressed aluminium, or the triangulated 'Toblerone' style letters?

You need the toblerone style letters but there are different variations of these so if you want to be spot on, Proff O will know exactly what is correct for 57.

Personally I hope you can source a UK non age related plate as I'd hate to see it with just another age related DVLA issue.....

What do you mean?

If you're talking about letters first and vice versa etc, as the car is from abroad and LHD, I really don't care - it matters to me not one jot.

I'd be more concerned if it was a UK car that had lost it's plate previously...

Could someone explain the age related plate thing to me in terms of letters first etc, as I must confess, I've never really looked into it.

Hi

I'm on 6 volt, so upgraded to LED. After fitting I found the light very pink and unnatural. So reverted back to standard. Then again my wiring is A1 so all my lights are bright and worked perfectly. Borrow mine LED bulbs if you want.

Cheers

I believe Martin's talking about those [IMO] horrible, so called "age related" plates the DVLA issue to imported classic vehicles. You can spot them a mile off because the alphabetic part always starts with an 'X', such as: "123 XUB" or "456 XUY".

Also, can they be bent to match the curve of the bunper and W-deck lid?

Like it or not, I;ll be fitting a rectangular traditional shape number plate to the rear of mine instead of the more popular square plate.

Two reasons - firstly, that's how it was in Portugal, and secondly, because of that, the holes in the deck lid are spaced too far apart to fit square ones and I'm not drilling any more holes, nor do I want the existing holes on show.

Ah, I see.

Why is that horrible?

It's only a number?

If it's horrible because it identifies the car as an import, I have no problem or shame with that, it is an import, and proudly so...
