Great site you've got here, I've been popping on for a while now, so I thought I'd join. Here's a pic of my car, a 1965 CKD Irish car.

Welcome!

Didnt realise they still made CKD's in Ireland in the 60s!

Cool looking car!

Thanks,

I believe the Beetle was actually made here until September 1977.

Welcome! Very nice looking car, can you educate us on all the little differences of an Irish CKD beetle? I've heard that the glass has a shamrock on, is that right?

Welcome to the forum.

Nice car! As Rob says, tell us more about the 60s Eire (pun intended) CKD cars!

Thanks for the compliments. Not sure that there are too many differences with the Irish Beetles, but I'm sure there are others that know more then I do!

There are shamrocks on the windows. The glass was made in Ireland to get around import duty. Import duty on cars was very high, on parts and CDK kits the duty was a lot lower. But in order to qualify as an "Irish" car there had to be a percentage of the car to be made in Ireland.
