Helping a friend with his 65 single cab. Removed engine and replaced the starter motor bush. Then tried to figure how to change the seal in the gearbox nosecone without removing the gearbox. Nearly there, nosecone out..........now have to change the bush or obtain a later nosecone (feb66 to 67)

Having taken the motor out again last week, we had it running on the floor again for about 25 minutes tonight, just to make sure the oil stayed on the inside this time. Seemed to be fine, so hopefully we can get it back in again next week.

Just inspected the underside of the '56 after Jon diagonally reversed this lowered car over a drop kerb.

The raised kerb corner has put a distinct crease along the pan under the driver's seat. This has forced the seat runners apart slightly, making the seat very difficult to adjust.

But the car looks cool lowered of course.

Had a go at easing some of the crease out with blocks of wood and a mallet. Not an easy task, but I have noted that the seat runner welds to the floor are coming away on one side.

Car wouldn't start again, decided I'd have another look at my carb to see if the pump jet was still working - took the top of the carb off and pulled the accelerator, the pump jet popped out and fell into the manifold. So I took the carb off while swearing quite a lot, and managed to fish it back out with some gaffer tape on the end of a screw driver (phew).

I think basically my carb is not as good as it could be, the top butterfly is really stiff.

Anyone got a carb they can sell me?

finally figured out an annoying squeal i had on the bug, turned out the dizzy shaft needed greasing. also checked the dwell and timing. replaced the coil to choke wire with new factory looking spade connectors.

just need this rain to stop and it can be mot'd!

It´s ALIVE! ALIVE!!!
Had the 1500 fitted again and running in a blisteringly quick 3 hours. Had to work out how to wire up the regulator to the oddball 67 only(?) dynamo, but it seemed to be charging afterwards. Massive thanks to Zehbeh and Andy, the youg Fiat mechanic who helped ("I´ve never had a carburetter in my hands before!"). I even took it for a run round the block in the rain. Naturally it cut out at the traffic lights, at which point I discovered my battery was kippered, but a couple of passersby helped me bump it so I could get home. It actually goes pretty well too. 1500s are nice motors.

One that fits and works...

It's a 28 pict-1 on there at the moment, there doesn't appear to be enough room for a carb with a larger float bowl, but apart from that I'd be happy to try anything at the moment.

Got a 28 pict 2 that came on my 59 (later 1200 fitted) seamed to run ok but had a nother carb with it that looked better so put that on. This carb seems to have some solder fitted to the front were on the other carb i fitted is a blanking plug and the return spring has been cobbled up see the photos. it could be put back to standard if you had the top bracket and cut the pin off. The fitting is from stud center to stud center is 55mm and from the rear stud center to the back of the float chamber seems to be 40mm 12 volt electrics fitted.

Size looks right, I could use bits off my existing carb to sort the return spring 'update'. PM me how much you want for it, and can you post it so I can try and get the car driving before Stanford Hall?
