Found out this morning that the angle of rise of the front seat runners is different on a '56 oval to that of a '54.

Yes, they changed in August 1955. Also, the front seats themselves were increased in width at the same time (by 30mm I think).

That's right, also those older seats tend to let your body slide to the middle of the car on long distances! Ha, be prepared and take a small cushion.:d

My poor cars have had nothing done for a few weeks as I have been creating a web site for the Ascort cars. It is a slow process but is slowly getting there.

I start holidays at the end of the week, so hopefully should get the web site up then and get some real work done on the cars.

One exciting thing for me was purchasing all the original negatives and documents relating to the Ascort by Australian motoring journalist Pedr Davis. They are large format negatives and are the series done for the first articles on the cars in 1958 and 1959.
Some negatives are the photos that are commonly seen, such as the Ascort beside the Sydney harbour bridge, but many others are photos that I have not seen in any publication and are not photos that I had ever seen before. :d

I probably have enough material, and the web site will only touch the surface. I have considered it as a retirement project ..... so maybe one day.

It would be nice to have a completed original car to include though.

The only restored one has had the lowering/fat wheels/big engine treatment and has a lot of changes from original.

Just enjoyed driving it through the countryside for no good reason, other than that it was a nice evening for a top down drive. The 1500 motor pushes it along really nicely.

It does seem very good. My pal had had it in his garage for about 25 years, from a car he scrapped. It´s a bit of a game fitting one in an early car though.

We ended up getting it stuck halfway in! Nobody told me you have to remove the heat exchangers, fanbelt and bits of the dizzy too. Pig of a job the first time. Not so bad when you know what to take off first.

yes, you basically just have to install the long block, and then fit all the ancillaries when its in the car.

We took the body off my Oval this week, after having to cut through some plates welding it to the outer edges of the floorpan. The body was braced first using sturdy metal bars which will be cut out later. There a few little holes where the plates were welded, and the rear corners have gone, but overall not too bad for a fifty-five year old Swedish car. While the new heater channels are going in, I'll be stripping the rest of the chassis, scraping off the thick underseal before it goes off to be blasted.

Gavin.
