OK... somebody had to do it... so here it is. please post your coachbuilt photochops here. I'll start with this one... most of you have seen it... but it is a good start.

Ok... not a coachbuilt... but it would be by the time you were done! it is one of the ugliest single cab conversions possible! a "chop top" for tall people.

At one time during its very abusing life, my Rometsch Beeskow was lifted with a forklift through its front windshield frame.... After a lot of work we have now got it straight and nice - BUT - during the restoration phase I admit thinking several times "why not just cut it off and put an early Speedster windshield assembly on there"... NOW - what would that look like?? A task for all you excellent choppers out there.

If somebody out there can/would.... The "overflow" of Lawrence-Cabrios made me think... What would it look like if Rometsch decided to go with a trend in the car design-market... and actually build a Rometsch Lawrence Hatchback-type body variant?? You know....sort of 911, Buick Riviera, T3 Fastback...or many types of cars from this era... Just keeping the whole body and maybe windshield exactly as original....but just s totally different roof-line and door glass and engine lid... I think it would look great and very modern for 1957/58... Done in sort of the spirit of Der Wiger Coupe... all original and period correct. 1957 Rometsch Lawrence Hatchback Sport Coupe Could anybody do such a photoshop?...just a straight sideview?

Posted by: SplitPersonality - 02 February 2011 09:54:02
Re my post above.. I could really find any good pre-1960 inspirational cars... but here are some not-so-good "theme cars" for what I am after... It needs to be a sporty looking one...to take off some the the "kindness" the original Lawrence expresses...

Posted by: SplitPersonality - 02 February 2011 10:01:27
How could I forget... Rometsch did build hatchbacks.. Although these are a little "pre-1955" in style... we need to be 1957/58-style for the "Lawrence Rometsch Hatchback Sport Coupe"... Anybody up for the photoshop-challenge?

I realize it is very Volvo P1800-like also...which is not bad. I like it. And how about some sort of air intake behind the rear side windows? Thanks! Oystein

I had a little more time on it this time, (not just my lunch break) so i fixed up the photo a little bit better. Rather than a big scoop, I added a chrome cover behind the side windows, in the style of the B pillar cover on the Lawrence Coupes. You could maybe angle the side windows in a little to open up the air flow, its more subtle than sticking a scoop on the outside. would a 356 grill on the back look odd?

Posted by: JD - 08 February 2011 12:04:51
Not at all, I considered that myself, but lazyness won the day.:d I was hoping it would turn out with a bit more of the looks of the old Pegasos, but of course some of that glass could be tricky. I may try that rear window idea from the silver Pegaso.
That would be cool... When I started on my Beeskow Rometsch, the windshield frame was bent and in bad shape... One crazy thought back then (the frame is now perfect, so no question any more)....a thought was to cut it off and fit a 356 Speedster window on the Beeskow... And maybe do a very soft "weekend racer" style on it... very subtle. So....you PS-expert.... what does a VW Beeskow Rometsch Convertible look like with a 356 Speedster windshield frame on it? (man....I love pre67...)

Posted by: JD - 09 February 2011 23:09:52
It´d probably look great - but Speedster screens are very curved across the bottom and Rometsch bodies are quite flat. So unless you went for custom glass, it wouldn´t fit together anyway.

The small taillights really make it look better. Maybe a 20-30mm lowering of the windshield and roof would make it look even more proportionally correct? The rear window arrangement is really fance and cool, although Italian. I am not sure Mr Lawrence would have drawn those lines in Germany in...1956/57... but certainly very period correct. Great job JD!

Is it possible to replace them with totally stock original 16-inch two-tone (ivory/black & ivory/green) rims and hubcaps (w painted logo)?? b) How about a variant with the above wheels....and then all black car but with green segment on the side (like "all" Hebmullers)?
