That looks fantastic!

Certainly does... Out of my price range (as are most things these days) but it'll be interesting to see what it goes for.

Posted by: vintagebug - 02 November 2012 13:11:51
And a '53 Oval on the same website. Described as "probably one of the best in the world". That's a big claim to make.... looks very nice though. https://www.classiccarsforsale.co.uk/classic-car-page/113449/1953-vw-beetle/ Rob, this is a bit cheaper than the standard Zwitter- it might be in your price range!

https://www.classiccarsforsale.co.uk/classic-car-page/182636/1957-vw-beetle/ '57 looks bloody good aswell. With the UK reg Nos and the stories on the cars, looks like someone's joined the importing business.

Posted by: vintagebug - 02 November 2012 17:21:06
Yep, I noticed that as well, George. Consecutive reg. numbers.

Posted by: Pricivius - 02 November 2012 21:34:41
Wow - that looks pristine! Genuine query (totally not criticising!) but shouldn't a zwitter have chrome round the split rear window? Or is it the case that some did and some didn't?

Posted by: GKL 7 - 02 November 2012 22:35:06
Standards didn't,Exports did.

Posted by: Pricivius - 02 November 2012 23:47:30
But if that's a standard, why does it have chrome bumpers?

Posted by: GKL 7 - 03 November 2012 18:36:26
But if that's a standard, why does it have chrome bumpers?
Because for certain countries eg.Belgium,Switzerland etc.....They did. It's a Minefield

Posted by: Pricivius - 03 November 2012 22:51:03
Okay... but am I right in thinking that splits never had the chrome round the split rear window?

Posted by: GKL 7 - 03 November 2012 23:06:56
Other than Zwitters,Splits did not have the alloy trim around the back window. Yes you're right in your thinking. Are you home now Dawn.Or is your brother still lucky enough to be driving your car ?

Posted by: Pricivius - 03 November 2012 23:32:44
Thanks. It really is a minefield! Well, I'm now down in London permanently but the zwitter is staying with my mum for now so my brother gets to play with him. Hopefully, the zwitter will be on his way down to London some time soon as I miss him! If only mine was as gorgeous as this one...

I have looked round that zwitter a few weeks back and heard it running, is a truly stunning car. The restoration its had is top notch, the owner is a great guy. Who ever gets it will be very lucky indeed :)

It's lovely to look at but patina and a car with character always looks better in my eyes. Anyone agree?

So what did the Zwitter and other Beetles make at the auction?

Posted by: RoRoVw - 19 November 2012 12:00:20
A few of us attended the auction for the sale of the zwitter lot since we were at the NEC with the Historic Club. The bidding opened at £18000. There was a phone bidder and a guy in the room. The guy in the room took it up to £21000 and the phone bidder came back at £21200. The guy in the room dropped out at this point and the hammer fell at £21200. There was a buyer's premium of 10% to pay on top of that, plus vat on the buyer's premium so the final figure paid out by the purchaser would have been £23744. We didn't see the other three beetles sell but I understand from the auctioneers that the oval sold for £11500, the 1972 1300cc with 25k miles on the clock, for £5000 and the 1970, left hand drive import from Hungary made £7800. All plus buyer's premiums etc. The zwitter looked a good car, the oval looked good from a distance but had a few issues, the 1972 1300 was probably a very good buy but we thought the sale price of the 1970 was way too much. Hope we see the zwitter staying in the UK. Cheers, Rob.

Now lets think... how short was the Zwitter run, and how very few of those were Standard models? Yes, we're talking about a very, very, rare car. More oddly, they think that the price taken on the LHD 1970 car was a good deal. The same Volksworld people think that £20k+ for a rotten, tatty, lowered with awful wheels VW Type II is in order.

You, on the other hand, Mr Double Standards, clearly operate with a 'do as I say, not as I do' mentality.
Now you're saying, you are in the right because Rob is just sticking up for me,what a very very sad character you are.
But you'd never be decent enough to amend it, so who's really sad?
