Best surely to keep your classic safely locked in the garage. Insured or not, scratches made by jeleous people and theft of parts are just hastle and a pain to sort out, even if you are able to claim.
“In most cases these cars are in storage, so the owners haven’t got them insured to the correct level – or insured at all [because they don’t think anything can happen to them – Ed]. To make matters worse, if the owner doesn’t make regular trips to the car, it can be weeks before the theft is discovered. In that time, the car would have been broken down and sold for parts. We’ve had one case where it was six years between the owner’s last visit and the discovery that it was missing.”

Did you read the article?
I think you misunderstood what I was saying. Even if insured, it is best to keep your rare car locked away securely. You will still have the hassle and agro of claiming for scratches and minor theft should something happen. And it really is hassle and agro, because insurers will try all they can to avoid payout, and you have all the messing around having a repaint or searching out that stolen part.
